The man played a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.

The legal representative added: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC stated materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.

She said the man went on to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she continued.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining the police response of the situation.

The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the police again.

She said the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
